Trusting God in Every Situation — Even Broken Appliances

Life rarely breaks things one at a time—it’s usually the washing machine and the fridge right after the wedding bill. But here’s the good news: God doesn’t miss a single detail. He is in ALL of it.

When Everything Breaks at Once

This morning, I read something in New Morning Mercies that I just can’t shake:

“Over all the trouble that confounds and dismays us is a God of glorious wisdom, power, and grace who rules EVERY moment of EVERY situation.”

I read it “by accident” (you know, God’s kind of accident) because I got my days mixed up. But when I read it today—on the exact morning when both my washing machine and my garage fridge were pronounced dead—it hit different.

Because let’s be real: appliances dying days after you’ve paid for a wedding isn’t exactly the perfect financial timing.

I wanted to shout, “Lord, did You see the bill we just paid?”
Instead, I texted the family group chat:
"GUESS WHO’S GETTING A NEW WASHING MACHINE FOR HER BIRTHDAY!"

And then I remembered: EVERY & ALL.
God knows every detail. He is in all of it. Even in the “fun” surprise expenses.

Daniel Didn’t Flinch

When Daniel heard about the law that could land him in a lion’s den for praying to God, he didn’t panic or scheme his way out. Scripture says:

“He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.” (Daniel 6:10 ESV)

No hiding.
No negotiating.
No frantic to-do list of “ways to fix it.”

He just kept doing what he always did—trusting the Lord and praying.

But My Head Still Spins…

I know God’s in control. I believe it.
And yet the human, practical side of me still wonders:

  • Should I get a job?

  • Cancel all streaming services?

  • Declare a family grocery fast for a month?

When I start spinning, I hear Him whisper: Wait upon the Lord.

Because here’s the truth—He already has this figured out.

Friend, This Is For You Too

If you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’ve got your own “broken appliance” situation—a problem that came at the exact wrong time on paper, but at the exact right time in God’s plan.

Our God is the God of glorious wisdom, power, and grace who rules EVERY moment of EVERY situation. Even yours.

Hallelujah and amen.
